About
LILY OF THE VALLEY (LOTV) PUBLISHING SERVICES MISSION
The mission of Lily of the Valley Publishing is to offer ministry publishing opportunities to those who serve to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We believe that the Holy Bible is the only complete and sufficient book that can transform lives, but we also know that the Lord uses testimonies from His children to reach into the lives of the lost.
The Lord has blessed us with the opportunity to serve Him here on earth; our purpose is to bring Him honor and glory in all that we do. We believe the Lord has called us to share our gifts, education, experiences, and resources that He has graciously provided in order to help one another spread the Gospel. Here are a few verses that we love for the LOTV mission:
Philippians 2:3-4: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
Luke 6:28: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
IS LOTV PUBLISHING A "VANITY PUBLISHER?"
A "vanity publisher" (also called a "vanity press" or "subsidy publisher") is a publishing house that publishes books at the author's expense, meaning authors pay for the entire publishing process, including printing, editing, and marketing.
Here's a more detailed explanation of a vanity publisher:
LOTV Publishing produces Christian books in a co-op setting which includes all aspects of the publishing process including editing, formatting, interior manuscript and cover design, eBook creation, uploads to Amazon and IngramSpark, affordable shipments of author copies, and assistance with publicity and marketing via our website, social media accounts, and online ads. We offer affordable payment options and you do not pay until the work is completed and you are satisfied. Our authors retain full copyright for their books, receive an average of 30% royalties on all online sales, and retain nearly 50% of all in-person book sales (after printing/shipping costs). Our mission is to return as much revenue to the author as possible to support their ministry and writing. This separates us from vanity publishers and exceeds the performance of a traditional publisher.
How can we afford to do this? It's much like a co-oped structure. Willing to help with a little proof-reading? Some writing elbow-grease? We all work together to lift each other up, drive down costs, and spread the Gospel of Jesus....which the Bible calls us to do!
We do not solicit for services; please do not accept any offers on our behalf as these are not legitimate. If contacted from someone claiming to be from LOTV Publishing, please email us at: [email protected]
LOTV Publishing reserves the right to publish only those works that align with our Biblical world-view and beliefs. Secular works meeting our quality standards may be considered for publication but will not qualify for addition to our website or social media accounts.

- Focus on Profit, Not Quality:
Vanity publishers' primary goal is to make money from author fees, rather than focusing on the quality of the books or helping authors achieve success in the publishing industry. X
- Limited Services:
While some vanity publishers may offer basic services like editing and cover design, the quality can be uneven, and they often lack meaningful distribution and marketing support. X - Potential for Scams:
The term "vanity press" is often used in a derogatory way, and some vanity publishers have been accused of engaging in scams, overcharging authors, and providing low-quality services. X - Contrast with Self-Publishing:
While vanity publishing is a form of self-publishing, it's important to distinguish it from self-publishing platforms where authors retain control over the process and don't pay upfront fees.
- Hybrid Publishing:
Some publishers offer a hybrid publishing model where authors cover some of the costs, but the publisher still takes on some financial risk and offers more support than a vanity press. + <----
- How to Spot a Vanity Press:
Look for publishers who:- Demand large upfront fees X
- Lack transparency about costs and services X
- Promote their services aggressively X
- Offer little to no marketing or distribution support X
- Have a history of negative reviews or complaints X
Unlike traditional publishers who take on the financial risk and pay authors royalties, vanity publishers charge authors fees to cover the costs of producing and distributing their books. X - Lack of Selection Criteria:
Vanity publishers typically have little to no selection criteria for the books they publish, meaning they will publish almost any manuscript as long as the author is willing to pay.X - The average cost to publish a book with a vanity press can range from $3,000-$5,000, with reports of up to $10,000 and additional costs for publicity and marketing.
